Information on Alzheimers Disease International

Alzheimers disease is the most common cause of dementia, and symptoms may include loss of memory, difficulty in finding the right words or understanding what people are saying, difficulty in performing seemingly simple tasks, and personality and mood changes.

It is a progressive brain disorder that gradually destroys a persons memory and ability to learn, reason, make judgments and communicate, and as it progresses, individuals may also experience sudden changes in personality and behavior, such as anxiety, suspiciousness and agitation, as well as delusions and hallucinations.

There are presently more than five million people living with this disease, and although there is currently no cure for Alzheimers, there are various new treatments that are on the horizon as a result of the incredibly accelerating insight into the actual biology of the disease itself, which is a very positive thing.

There are a number of different associations and organizations out there that specialize in Alzheimers disease and which strive to help persons suffering from the disease as much as possible, one of the most well respected and well known being Alzheimers Disease International.

Alzheimers Disease International is the umbrella organization of Alzheimer associations throughout the world, and they have a primary aim, which is to help establish and strengthen these associations, and to raise global awareness about this serious and detrimental disease.

Alzheimers Disease International is the international federation of Alzheimers associations around the world, and their mission is to work towards improving the quality of life of people who suffer from Alzheimers, as well as their friends and family. They are constantly striving and working to strengthen their various member organizations in any and every way that they can, so that they are better able to meet the needs of all the people that have this disease, and their loved ones.

Alzheimers Disease International was established in 1984, and since then they have expanded and grown dramatically. They hold an annual conference, one which is international and which is actually the longest running international conference on dementia in the world.

Alzheimers Disease International also runs the Alzheimers University, which involves a series of practical workshops that are aimed at helping both staff and volunteers of the various Alzheimers associations to build and strengthen their organizations. They also actually had a hand in creating World Alzheimers Day, which is celebrated on September 21 of each year, and which first began in the year 1994.
